Larger injectors and timing?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have a 2005 5.9, with 70hp over injectors, With the Smarty Touch on the latest firmware, is it ok to run the timing at 1 default (most aggressive timing) ?

Thank's so much to anyone that can answer this, it seems to run fine and sounds good, just want to make sure.

Listen to what the engine tells ya.  If it’s sounding like you are getting too early ignition of the fuel(timing rattle) try a lower timing setting.  Should be fine.  I ran 100hp injectors with highest settings on the s-06 just fine.

Awesome thanks so much for the info, yea it sounds real smooth on that setting, I don't think im getting any timing rattles or chatters, but not exactly sure what it sounds like on a diesel. Ill just keep a eye on my gauges and a ear on my engine, and leave it at that setting for now.

Stock in the cruise region there are points where you can hear it.  I’m sure you’ve heard it but never took real notice to it, it’s fairly faint but noticeable.   But within the cruise region the combustion pressures aren’t high enough to have ill effect and you can have higher timing in that region before having damaging effects.
